Create your own Fanedit

Create your own ideal cut of The Hobbit, using the Abridged cut as a starting point!

Every audio and visual edit in the The Hobbit Abridged is publically available and accessible using open source software. You are welcome to add your own edits to the film to create your own perfect version.

If you do create your own cut, please let me know!

How to do it...

1. Get the full cutlist

The Abridged cut is openly available on github in the kdenlive file format. The complete set of audio and video edits is freely available to use and modify under the GNU General Public License v3.0.

2. Install kdenlive

Kdenlive is free video editing software, also released under the GNU GPL.

Note: The Abridged cut has been successfully rendered using kdenlive version 15.12.3. There appears to be an audio problem when rendering with more recent versions. This is a known issue and will be addressed in a future release.

3. Start creating your own fanedit

To access the Abridged cut, you will need to install kdenlive and download the kdenlive file and images in the github repo. You will also need the theatrical versions of An Unexpected Journey and The Battle of the Five Armies, and the extended version of The Desolation of Smaug.

With these pieces in place, you are ready to modify the edit to create your own ideal cut of The Hobbit.
